Accessing Yahoo Mail Using POP, SMTP and IMAP Settings

You can use your Yahoo email account on desktop mail client or on your mobile device through an app to receive and send messages with your Yahoo Mail address and access the account on the web using a browser. The Yahoo IMAP settings make sure that you are able to access mail in all your Yahoo folders both on the email program and browser. Along with this, you will need to configure SMTP settings to send mail using your account.

Yahoo Mail Settings- IMAP, SMTP, and POP

The Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) administers the receiving and viewing of messages and Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) administers the sending of outbound messages. When you configure IMAP, you will also be required to configure SMTP. Yahoo also supports Post Office Protocol (POP) that is an email standard responsible for governing the receipt of messages. POP retrieves a message from the server, then deletes it from there, so it is available only on the device onto which it was downloaded. However, IMAP sync messages with the server, so you will see the same thing on all the devices you use to connect to your Yahoo mail account.
