Rural Areas Catching Up as ISPs Like Broadlinc Fight to Bring Connectivity

| Updated on February 26, 2024

Kentucky has a high population that is not served by a high-speed network. Data shows that about 40 percent of the population does not have a high-speed connection.

Thousands of students in this state lack proper net connection.

Did You Know? : The estimated internet users are around 3.26 billion worldwide . You can refer to the value with less than half of Earth’s population.

Other Kentuckians cannot work on remote jobs and miss telehealth opportunities, online retail business, entertainment, and social connections.

In the list of the poorest states in the USA, Kentucky ranks among the top ones. Perhaps a proper internet connection can restore hope to Kentuckians living below the poverty line.

This is where Broadlinc’s Service Provider comes in, and as you can see on their site, they provide fixed wireless and broadband cable networks all over Kentucky.

Broadlinc and Other ISPs Spreading Fast Internet

It takes a home-owned and operated company to know what the local people want. That is why Broadlinc has become the company of choice for Kentuckians.

As a local company, they are always ready to listen to the people, give customized services, and respond to downtimes very fast.

Broadlinc has been offering stable computer network connections to people in Wayne, Carroll, McLean, Owen, and Boone counties to name but a few with high-speed connections.

They do this through their cable, fixed wireless, and fiber networks. Every year, they expand their reach to connect many people to high-speed network connectivity.

In their lineup, they have products for residential as well as commercial customers. These products include affordable phone and internet bundles (two services).

Another popular bundle has a net, phone, and cable TV (three services). This flexibility is important as it enables them to bring their customers the most affordable, comprehensive entertainment packages.

To Broadlinc and other similarly-committed ISPs, no customer is too big to serve or too small to handle.

High-Speed Connection in Rural Kentucky

The lack of network connectivity in America is more pronounced on the back roads. As of 2022, the Federal Communications Commission said that about 14.5 million people lacked internet connection

It also said that more than 100 million people could not subscribe to a high-speed computer network even where it was available because of income constraints. These are huge numbers and if you get to the ground, you will actually see that they are understated.

As the broadband companies say; there is very low ROI in rural America because of the low population densities. However, does this mean that countryside communities will never enjoy fast net? Internet is a human right, and companies such as Kentucky-based Broadlinc are making a lot of headway in agricultural areas.

The FCC says that broadband networks must meet the minimum download rate of 25Mbps and minimum upload rate of 3Mbps. In many of the agrarian towns of Kentucky where Broadlinc and other ISPs have extended their reach, the locals will enjoy these net velocities.

The traditional forms of network connection such as dial-up, satellite, and DSL do not come anywhere close to broadband for velocity. Therefore, Broadlinc, and indeed other ISPs seek to connect the countryside Kentuckians to broadband internet.

Fixed Wireless Internet without Data Limits

How fixed wireless internet works

Technically, no company offers unlimited data. However, when the ISP offers an excessive data limit such that you never exhaust it per month, well, then we could say it is limitless.

This is what Broadlinc and other companies offer. By using the fixed wireless service without data limits, people in agrarian areas of America can enjoy similar services as people in urban centers.

Because of income disparities in different places, the ISPs do not offer one-size-fits-all types of services. Rather, they customize their packages to fit different packages. That is why Broadlinc offers packages with net and telephone, net + telephone + cable bundles, and so on.

With unlimited access, people can do business online, work from home, torrent, and stream content easily.

Many customers do not even know which connection is better than the other since the list is quite long. They just want 100 percent uptime if possible, unlimited usage, and they want it in flexible options or bundles.

This can be hard to provide while using cable or fiber because of the costs involved. To get around this obstacle, they are using fixed wireless instead.

By installing service towers further inland, ISPs are making it possible to access fast internet even in places where fiber and cable cannot go.

ISPs Partner with Others to Enhance Internet Access

The undertaking to provide fast internet access to rural areas is very costly. As such, ISPs cannot do it alone. The cost of cabling and laying other infrastructure in sparsely populated areas makes this a costly venture.

But this does not mean that the communities out there should be cut off from the goodies that fast network brings. This is why companies such as Broadlinc have gone out of their way to bring high-speed connectivity to countryside towns, and at affordable prices too.

The federal government has been working on the policy framework, of course in collaboration with the state governments, to connect all people to broadband.

This has brought about the birth of important programs such as the Better Internet Initiative in Kentucky. A brainchild of the state government, it seeks to collaborate with ISPs on funding and infrastructure issues.

The main objective is to take high-velocity connections to rural communities, at the same prices as the urban households pay, if not cheaper.

ISPs are also partnering with investor-owned utilities to use their infrastructure to take more internet to the people. Using the utility’s infrastructure, every home that has electricity can be connected to the net.

Do Rural Areas have Fiber Internet?

Fiber connection is the darling of many consumers because of its fast rate. It can send data at 70 times the rate of light. Compared to the other types of cabled networks, fiber is about 20 times faster!

Unfortunately, fiber cabling is very expensive. Therefore, many places in the world lack access to the same. This applies also to rural America, where many communities still lack connectivity to fiber.

Did You Know? : 2022 report depicts that, India has 336.6 million network connections in rural areas.

Studies have shown that 50 percent of Rural America does not have a broadband connection. Therefore, they have to make do with dial-up connections, which are slow and erratic. They also use satellite broadband, but it is costly and is affected by the weather.

Despite the excessive cost of installing fiber optic cabling, ISPs are finding a way to bring broadband internet to agrarian towns.

Again, we have to look at Broadlinc, as an example. They don’t provide fiber optic cables to agrarian Kentucky. Rather, they provide coaxial/fiber hybrid cable to hold brief for them as they put fiber infrastructure underway.

Combined with wireless service towers installed strategically in different places, they are able to provide high-speed network connectivity even to the most cutoff communities.

Conclusion

In Governor Andy Beshear’s Better Kentucky Plan, they have put aside $600 million for fast connectivity to underserved and unserved countryside communities, and poor urban neighborhoods. Pretty much, other states are following in similar footsteps.Right in the middle of these plans are the ISPs, which are mandated with bringing the actual internet to the people. To do this, they are seeking new partnerships with financiers, private organizations, public utility companies, tribal authorities as well as state governments. This concerted effort has seen many rural towns in Kentucky being connected to high-velocity internet.
