The announcement about ChatGPT having its own dedicated phone was made during a live YouTube stream displaying the technology in real-time. Now, anybody in the United States can dial 1-800-CHATGPT (1-800-242-8478) to engage in a conversation with ChatGPT. They will receive the same sophisticated responses as they would get on the web.
This phone-based version uses Advanced Voice Mode technology that allows for a seamless and natural dialogue. The major goal of offering access to ChatGPT through a standard phone line is to enable the users to interact with the chatbot even in areas that lack internet connectivity.
During the demonstration, OpenAI illustrated this with the scenario of travellers on a road topic who wish to learn more about their surroundings without the need to share videos and photos.
For users outside the U.S., OpenAI has also announced that ChatGPT is now accessible on WhatsApp allowing users to text the chatbot directly through the messaging platform of Meta.
