Xiaomi Overtakes Apple As Worlds Second Largest Smartphone Maker

In a recent market update, Xiaomi has overtaken Apple to become the world’s second-largest smartphone brand for August. This became possible after a three-year gap based on monthly sell-through volume. However, Xiaomi’s sales remained flat MoM compared to the seasonal decline of Apple’s products.

The report according to Counterpoint Research’s Smartphone 360 Monthly Tracker, clearly suggests Xiaomi is the fastest-growing smartphone brand.

Xiaomi Growth Over the Years

The news comes just after the launch of Huawei trifold smartphone announcement on the same day that Apple launched its new iPhone 16 Pro mobile phone with AI capabilities. There have been further developments in iOS since then, but for August, it is Xiaomi that reigns supreme because of its consistent performance and altering its marketing strategies.

Research Director, Tarun Pathak, said, “Xiaomi has adopted a leaner product strategy this year, focusing its energies to create one hero model per price band, rather than launching multiple devices in one segment.” He further emphasized that the Chinese brand has not hesitated to explore newer markets while making its mark in the premium category of smartphones as well.

The diverse price segment has attracted more customers to experience the brand’s features, which is a huge win for the company. While Apple and Samsung may be making waves internationally, for now, Redmi sales are also high in many countries. The new iPhone recently launched has mixed reactions from users, but it hopes to reclaim its number one spot in the coming months.

Till then, investors and customers are anticipating more growth opportunities for Xiaomi and also celebrating the success of a local brand over a US one.
