There are so many amazing places across the Western Caribbean to visit, including Cozumel, Grand Cayman, the Mayan Riviera, Belize, Honduras, and more. In all of these locations, you will be able to discover something to do for everyone. If you’re looking to take a relaxing vacation, have unforgettable adventures, learn a lot, or all of the above, you can find it in the Western Caribbean. Here are a few of the reasons why everyone should travel in the Western Caribbean.
Any Caribbean destination will have amazing beaches and every port on a Western Caribbean cruise will have a stunning one to visit. For example, Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman Island is known as the best beach in the Caribbean for its beauty and white sands. The island of Roatan, Honduras is another Caribbean island with beautiful coastlines and is known for its white-sand beaches and bright turquoise water. No matter where you visit, the beaches in the Caribbean are perfect for relaxing and enjoying the views.
All over the Western Caribbean, you can find some of the most delicious fresh seafood. For example, in the Bahamas, you can try the traditional conch salad, which is a fresh conch mixed with vegetables and seasonings. In addition to fresh seafood, you will find many other tasty foods to try in the Western Caribbean. In Roatan, Honduras, try a traditional baleada. A baleada is similar to a taco, but it is made with a flour tortilla instead of a corn tortilla as in Mexico. Baleadas are filled with mashed-up, fried beans, cheese, and sour cream. Sometimes scrambled eggs, meat or vegetables are also added. Chicken, plantains, and avocado are often added as well. In Mexico, try authentic corn tortilla tacos al pastor. Or, try them filled with cochinita pibil, pollo, carnitas, pescado or carne asada. In Belize, you can try a pupusa. While they are a traditional El Salvadorian dish, pupusas are also eaten in Belize. They are corn pancakes filled with cheese and beans, cheese and meat, or just cheese. They are traditionally served with curtido which is a cabbage slaw that has vinegar and red chilis. Anywhere you go in the Western Caribbean has unique and delicious cuisine to try.
Every destination in the Western Caribbean has an interesting history to learn. You can take tours of rum distilleries in Grand Cayman and in Mexico there are many ancient Mayan ruins to visit, explore and learn from. Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Progreso all have ruins to visit, with Tulum near Cozumel being one of the most famous and most visited in Mexico. Another is Chichen Itza. There you will find El Castillo, an incredible step pyramid. When you visit any of these ancient ruins you will learn of the civilization and culture from thousands of years ago through the art, architecture, and talking with the locals.
The Western Caribbean also offers an endless amount of exciting adventures to be had. With some of the best coral reefs in the world, it is the perfect place for snorkeling, scuba diving, and diving. Belize is home to the second-largest coral reef in the world, the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The system is home to threatened species such as manatees and marine turtles. Cozumel, Mexico, and Grand Cayman Island also have amazing spots for snorkeling and observing the amazing wildlife such as dolphins and stingrays. There are also many places for ziplining over the rainforest, cave tubing on a river, and viewing waterfalls.
All across the Western Caribbean, you will find incredible ways to relax, learn, and adventure. There are amazing different cultures to experience, foods to try, adventures to have, and places to relax and enjoy the scenic views. These are just a few of the reasons why everyone should travel to and explore the Western Caribbean.
