If you are a Netflix Subscriber and have been paying for the service through Apple’s in-app purchasing option, you will need to start using an alternative payment system. Netflix is notifying the users about the change they are making to the payment option through Apple devices.
This is a move from the company in a direction after the 2018 directive in a similar direction. In 2018, Netflix stopped users from signing up for the service via iPhone or iPad. However, since then, Netflix let the existing users keep paying for the service through Apple’s payment system.
Since Apple is adamant about receiving a hefty payment cut, the streaming giant thinks it’s time to move past it. This development was first reported by TheStreamable. According to the report, the streaming giant asked their users to update their payment method.
In simple words, Netflix doesn’t want to pay a cut to Apple anymore. This way it would be able to make more money. Last month we reported that Netflix is ditching its cheapest plan in a few countries to improve its bottom line. The recent action to remove the Apple payment system is in the same direction.
Netflix also updated the US support page and included the following wording. “Some Apple-billed members in select countries may be prompted to add a new payment method to continue their subscription.”
For now, it is unclear how many users are affected by this action. This is an annoyance for Apple device users.
This is not the first time a company has sought this type of action. Earlier Spotify did a similar thing a few months ago, expressing their discontent about the charges from Apple.
