Sony is beginning a new beta test cloud streaming for the PlayStation Portal remote players, which they have demanded since its launch. The feature was rolled out on 19 November 2024 to enhance the experience of remote players.

PlayStation announced via a blog post, “When the update is live, PlayStation Plus Premium members will be able to participate in a beta for cloud streaming on PS Portal, allowing select PS5 games in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog* to be streamed directly from our servers, even without a PS5 console.”

Sony unveiled that users will be able to stream at 720p with a minimum 7Mbps internet connection, while 1080p streaming will require a 13Mbps connection. Additionally, the PS Portal will access over 120 games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog including Dave the Diver, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter Rise, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart through cloud streaming.

The cloud streaming beta version is available in the following countries:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States.

However, the beta updated system is not equipped with some features such as game trials, party voice chat, game invites for specific games, and streaming games purchased on PS Portal. Alongside, create button, 3D audio, and in-game commerce are also prohibited in the beginning days of cloud streaming.

Importantly, the updated PlayStation Portal is limited to PS5 games and does not support PS4 or PS3 games.
