At its build conference, Microsoft revealed a new AI-powered feature called “Recall” for Copilot Plus AI PCs. This new feature will allow the Windows 11 users to search and retrieve their past activities on their PC.
“Recall” records everything a user does on a PC by taking screenshots every few seconds and then crunches the data through AI and presents it to users. Recall records every activity in the apps, communications in live meetings, and websites visited for research.
“Recall uses Copilot+ PC advanced processing capabilities to take images of your active screen every few seconds. The snapshots are encrypted and saved on your PC’s hard drive. You can use Recall to locate the content you have viewed on your PC using search or on a timeline bar that allows you to scroll through your snapshots.” Microsoft mentions this on its website about “Recall.”
Despite having encryption and saving the data locally, the feature is not received well by users and they raise some concerns. Reddit users have been furious with Microsoft for introducing this feature.
A reddit user wrote that it is a gross violation of privacy and hopes it is not forced on anyone. He hopes that it’s an opt-in feature and not on by default.

There is even a petition to remove Microsoft Recall from Windows 11 on Change.org. They are calling the new feature a Spyware baked right into Windows 11. Anyone with access to your computer can see what you’ve been doing on your PC in the recent past.
