Pro Display XDR 2 And Larger iMac: Latest Rumors And Speculations

latest rumors about Pro Display XDR 2 and larger Mac

Mark Gurman, in his Power On newsletter, offered hints about a future for the Pro Display XDR and perhaps a larger iMac. There are some rumors about the Studio Display, which may feature mini-LED backlighting, expected for a 2026 launch.

The Pro Display XDR came out in December 2019 and has a beautiful 32-inch screen, LED backlighting, a 6K resolution of 60Hz refresh rate, a P3 wide color gamut, and extremely bright at 1,600 nits.

It has one Thunderbolt 3 port and three USB-C ports, starting at $4,999 in the U.S., while the optional Pro Stand costs $999 extra.

It was noted by Gurman that a new variant of Pro Display XDR is not the priority for Apple as of now.

In 2022 he mentioned that an Apple silicon chip would be in an upgraded version of the Pro Display XDR, but it is still unknown if this plan is still active or not. The current Studio Display uses an A13 Bionic chip for its features such as Center Stage for video calls, spatial audio, and Siri voice commands.

What features would be offered in the future Pro Display XDR are still unknown and the specifications about the same might also change. Users are crossing their fingers for a few enhancements: a built-in camera along with speakers that won an extra high refresh rate.

Almost three years ago, Apple discontinued the 27-inch iMac, therefore, the jumping-off point from the Intel processors.

Gurman and famed supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo both reported that an Apple 32-inch iMac is coming soon for users. The launch of the device is expected in late 2024 or into 2025.

Kuo reported that this larger iMac would utilize backlighting via mini-LED, which would further enhance brightness contrast ratios and other advantages in comparison to traditional LCD technology.
