For the past year or so, building the generative AI capabilities in a mobile device is already happening. We’ve seen that with Google and more recently with Samsung flagship devices. In this regard, Samsung followed Google and now OnePlus is joining the bandwagon.
The latest flagship device OnePlus 12 didn’t have any flashy AI tricks up its sleeve at the time of launch. But that is going to change now, with the latest ColorOS update for OnePlus 11 and OnePlus 12 in China picking up some new generative AI features.
An X user Mishaal Rahman discovered that OnePlus China has started rolling out the ColorOS update for the OnePlus 11 in the region. Later, it was discovered that this update was also for the newly launched OnePlus 12 as well. Check out his tweet.
With this update, OnePlus devices are getting a total of three new AI features including, AI Summarizer. This nifty feature will automatically generate a summary of your phone calls. It will capture details like location, time/date, action items, and more.
The next feature is an image editing tool named AIGG Remover which can help you remove objects and people from your pictures. This feature can be compared to the magic eraser feature from Pixel series devices. The changelog of the OS mentions that this feature can only remove things from images, with no mention of video editing.
The last feature they are getting is article summaries, which can be created in a single tap by mining key data. While these features may not be as powerful as those from Google or Samsung, it is a good start from OnePlus.
Apart from AI, this update also brings the ability to access the fingerprint scanner without waking the phone.
Well, these updates are for the Chinese version of the OnePlus device which runs ColorOS. Whether OnePlus brings these features to the global market or not, remains to be seen.
