A Radical Shift: Nothing Phone (3) and Headphone (1) Break the Mould

Smartphones often resemble one another. Headphones, whether from Sony or Bose, also lack a great degree of visual variety. Once again, the UK-based company Nothing has moved to disrupt events with Nothing Phone (3) with an absolutely unusual design and headphones sure to grab attention.

Alongside the Headphone (1) at a London event, Nothing revealed its third-generation flagship smartphone, the Nothing Phone (3). Starting at $799 for the 256 GB model, the smartphone comes with headphones created in collaboration with the venerable audio company KEF for $299. This pricing plan successfully cuts rivals across both groups. Official sales of Nothing Phone (3) will start on July 15; preorders already started on July 4, coming with Nothing OS 4.0 with Android 16. Here is all the vital knowledge you must have.

From its start in 2021, Nothing has made over $1 billion in sales; however, Carl Pei, the company’s founder, claims it now accounts for only 0.2% of the smartphone market. Though Pei wants Nothing to “transition from being market followers to pioneers, investigating how people interact with technology in the future,” the firm first entered established categories like headphones and cellphones.

Last year’s Ear (Open) was a brave step since it belongs to a relatively new category inside the bigger earbuds business, but it was successful; they are now among our top choices for open earbuds. Pei contends that while headphones are not a new market, Nothing sought to create something radically different since “existing designs in the market lack inspiration.”

Visually distinct, the over-ear headphones include noise-cancelling technology created in partnership with the well-known British audio company KEF. Having spent many days with the magnificent Headphone (1), I have been quite impressed by its build quality and physical controls. Two nickel-plated 40-mm dynamic drivers, together with KEF’s acoustic damping technology, guarantee that the sound is sharp, clear, and free of any fuzziness in the low-end frequencies.
