AI Security Boost: Microsoft Unveils Copilot Agents And New Safeguards

Microsoft introduces Security Copilot agents

Today, human beings can no longer perform any security on AI systems. However, the same AI can be enhanced by those systems to improve overall efficiency in security. This is where Microsoft comes in as it has committed its skills to AI-first security platforms to enable companies to secure the future.

A year ago, the General Availability of Microsoft Security Copilot was announced to help security teams quickly and efficiently detect, investigate, and respond to security incidents. Today, we are delighted to announce the next phase of Security Copilot, featuring AI agents that provide autonomous assistance in important areas like phishing, data protection, and identity management.

Rapidly evolving and increasingly complex cyberattacks have long rendered the capabilities of even the most skilled human security analysts irrelevant, making it necessary to implement AI agents as a contemporary measure of security.

For example, phishing attacks are still one of the most common types of cybercrimes. From January to December 2024, Microsoft caught over 30 billion phishing emails targeting our customers. This is what makes overwhelming security teams rely on manual processes and siloed defenses to triage the malevolent messages quickly and complete the full scope of cyber risk management by tapping into data-driven insights.

Now, the latest addition to Microsoft Security Copilot is the phishing triage agent, which will take care of everyday phishing alerts and cyber threats so that human defenders can attend to more complex cyber sorrows and proactive security measures. Further, safeguarding and governance of AI remain priority concerns for most organizations, which we are excited to augment with new innovations across Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Entra, and Microsoft Purview.

Microsoft Threat Intelligence analyzes an astounding 84 trillion signals per day because of the increasing growth in the speed and number of cyberattacks, including 7,000 password attacks every second. AI agents are the only solution to scale cyber defenses to meet the evolved threat landscape. Running advanced threat research should be a key component in any modern cybersecurity.
