Insta360 has showcased its latest X5, a 360° camera, following last week’s teaser. The Insta360 X5 is ‘the smartest and most durable 360-degree camera ever to be built’ and comes with promises of good image quality, owing to extensive Type 1/1.28 image sensors and speedy AI processors. This release comes just a year following the Insta360 X4, which added 8K 360-degree video to the family.
The X5 can still shoot at the same 8 Kp30 level, but with larger sensors and a ‘lightning-fast’ Triple AI Chip, the breakthrough for image quality that is seen across resolutions. It has a 6mm (equivalent) f/2 lens. The difference between Type 1/1.28 and Type 1/2 sensors may seem trivial in size, but the sensors in the X5 are 144% larger, thus capturing more light with every pixel.
Furthermore, better Artificial Intelligence (AI) performance means more effective noise reduction and image processing, including the new PureVideo, which uses advanced AI noise reduction and dynamic range optimization for cleaner, brighter footage in challenging lighting. The Active HDR has been significantly improved so that it could be functional with recording in 5.7 Kp60. There exist certain other video options, including 5.7 Kp60, 8 Kp30, 5.7 Kp30 and 4 Kp120 in normal mode, along with PureVideo, which is limited to 30p.
The max resolution is 4 Kp60 while using a single lens. The Insta360 X5 also shoots amazing stills up to 72 megapixels and is compatible with RAW DNG files. Founder of Insta360, JK Liu, says that the X5 provides refinement to the 360° cameras by fixing the real issues that are generally faced by the creators.
He further adds, “Indeed, from replaceable lenses to AI-powered low-light shooting, we’ve made our dream camera–rugged enough for the outside, able enough to produce good-quality footage, and smart enough to just make epic moments happen.”
