Offering free fixes for M2-powered 2023 Mac mini computers experiencing power failures, Apple has started a worldwide service project. Simultaneously, the business has announced significant enhancements to its gaming platform, including a new Games app and Metal 4 graphics technology.
This program aimed at power issues affects a very small percentage of Mac mini M2 devices manufactured between June 16 and November 23, 2024. Affected devices may not start, and Apple is providing free repairs via authorized service providers for up to three years from the date of initial purchase, even for units not covered by warranty.
Apple’s program website lets users enter their Mac mini’s serial number to determine their eligibility. Though Apple may restrict services to the nation or region where the device was first purchased, the repair coverage is worldwide. These problems have no effect on the newest Mac mini versions using M4 and M4 Pro CPUs.
Apple is also improving its gaming plan by releasing a specialized Games app scheduled to debut this fall on iPhone, iPad, and Mac running iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe. With game discovery, integration with Game Center for multiplayer challenges, leaderboards, achievements, and events, this app will serve as a central hub for gaming.
Early on, the company has focused on more established gaming platforms and left out Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro from the rollout of the Games app, even if there is room for development. Apple’s gaming API will see Metal 4 replace Metal 3 as it introduces path-tracing and AI-driven frame interpolation capabilities akin to Nvidia’s DLSS 3.5 and AMD’s FSR 4 solutions.
This method supports complex lighting effects in games like Cyberpunk 2077 and enables the real-time creation of intermediate frames to improve frame rates. “Metal 4 is designed exclusively for Apple silicon, and sets the stage for the next generation of games on Apple platforms with support for advanced graphics and machine learning technologies,” Apple noted.
