BlueSky launches new discovery feature

In recent months, the social media platform BlueSky has grown in popularity and is now piloting an exciting new feature which is known as Trending Topics. This addition is similar to the Trending Section found on X which has been designed to help users in uncovering the most engaging conversations and prevailing trends within the community.

According to an announcement from BlueSky’s official account, the Trending Topics feature is now accessible to users all around the world, both on the application and the website.

For those who are using the desktop version, trending topics can be found conveniently located in the right sidebar while the mobile application users can now easily view trending discussions by clicking on the Search button.

BlueSky has indicated that this is merely the initial iteration of the feature, with the plans for enhancements based on user feedback. Right now, the Trending Topics feature is in its beta phase and is exclusively available to English-speaking users.

For those who prefer not to engage with this feature, it can be disabled easily by moving to Settings. Following this, they need to tap on Content and Media and then uncheck the Enable Trending Topics option.

Moreover, BlueSky is committed to honoring user preferences with the Trending Topics section by offering the ability to mute specific words or phrases. This functionality makes sure that selected terms will not appear in the Trending Section which allows users to customize their experience and steer clear of content that does not align with their interests. In a detailed post explaining the mechanics of Trending Topics, BlueSky asserts that this is the first version of the feature and will evolve through user input. While it is only limited to English, there are plans to expand this feature to additional languages following further testing.
