Android Auto adding new features

Google has a plan to launch a brand new and fresh Android Auto capability that Apple has consistently banned. Users will be able to watch videos while in their cars thanks to the upcoming Android 16 update, as stated in an official Google blog post, as well as Gemini’s assistance.

Through the in-car entertainment system, video streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, as well as YouTube, which belongs to Google, will be accessible, however, only for those who are using Android Auto. Furthermore, web browsing is said to be possible, provided the vehicle is stationary, of course.

Apple ordered Sidecar to prevent drivers from accessing video content and the internet, therefore, this feature was recently taken away from a CarPlay app. When it was discovered that the app broke the standards of Apple, only if they had added the feature to their system.

Apple does not let users explore the internet or see videos through CarPlay, even when the car is not in motion. This may alter, especially with the debut of the newly launched CarPlay Ultra, but as of now, this limitation continues.

Google has stated that it would be later this year, it intends to enable video applications to run with Android Auto. Still, cars whose infotainment systems include Google thanks to Android Automotive may now benefit from this feature. Through a beta version of the program, these cars also have access to a browser.

Though in beta, users as of now can play games on their in-car system using both Android as well as Android Automotive. Volvo will be among the companies acting as a hardware launch partner, therefore, its cars, including the Volvo EX90, will be getting operating system upgrades as well as innovations. These upgrades also include Gemini support, before any other.
