If you are thinking of using X as your primary DM platform, then your wish might come true. They are building many features for the DMs on their platforms that could become your default communication app even if you don’t post anything on the platform.
The approach X is taking is pretty interesting as they are trying to make this a more definitive functional split.
In aid of this approach, the company is now working on a feature that will separate the DMs from everything else you do on the app. With the introduction of this feature, the in-app experience will not change a bit.
App researcher Nima Owji found a new option in the back-end of the code of the app that will enable the X users to initiate separate functionalities in DMs vs other elements.
Have a look.
Check out this tweet by Nima Owji. According to this, you will now be able to block messages from someone without blocking them entirely. You will still be able to see their posts in-stream.
Even Elon Musk responded to his post, saying that X is “decoupling DMs from public posting “so that if all you want to do is use this platform for messaging, but not post publicly, you can do so.”
This means that you won’t have to log into X and check the latest posts in order to use the DM platform.
In theory, the idea of this is appealing, but there are very few takers for it. People mostly use X for the instant news of a current topic. But, Elon Musk is hell-bent on creating a super app that does everything.
