X has Added a New Option to Opt Out of Using Your Data to Train Grok

| Updated on July 31, 2024

We all know that X trains its AI model, Grok, using the data available on X platform posted by millions of users.

Last week, the company added a new option for users that allows the company to use their posts and activity in the app to train its Grok AI chatbot. The company quietly added this setting within the app without informing the users.

Now, X has opted all users of the platform into this new setting. The new setting states that the platform can use your posts, and your interactions with Grok, inputs, and more can be used by Grok to train and improve the system.

The further mentions that the information may be shared with the xAI. Technically, xAI is a third-party company. So, the use of user data may or may not be covered under existing rules and regulations that users agree to when signing up for an X account.

This looks like the reason why X felt the need to add this option to the platform. This option is now active by default. It means that if people are not actively looking to turn it off, they are sharing their data with xAI.

To give X a little credit here, the company has been open about the fact that they are training their AI model on public X posts. According to them, this was done to build a more robust and up-to-date chatbot than other AI chatbot providers.
