Amazon-owned Twitch is looking to bolster its bottom line for a while. The streaming giant Twitch is increasing the price for the first time for its subscriptions.
The company says that it is “updating prices in several countries to help streamer revenue keep pace with rising costs and reflect local currency fluctuations.” The updated prices will take effect from March 28 next month.
The Tier 1 subscriptions on Twitch and gift subs will be expensive in the UK, Canada, and Australia markets first. The prices for Tier 1 subs will increase from £5 to £6 in the UK, $7 CAD to $8 in Canada, and $8 AUD to $9 in Australia. However, the Tier 2 and Tier 3 prices will remain the same for the time being in those countries.
Turkey is a different story, the increase in that country is significant. Now, the Tier 1 subs will cost 43.90 Lira (approx. $1.42) instead of 9.90 Lira (approx. 32 cents). This can be attributed to the plummeting prices of Turkish Lira over the last fifteen years.
The US is not on the list for now but we can soon see the increase for the US viewers as well shortly.
The overall reaction to this price change is negative on social media platforms. Users on X are asking the company for clarifications for these changes being made without consulting the Twitch community.
This is kind of good news for streamers as they stand to earn the same split as before. So, they would earn more from subscribers in these countries.
