Threads Tests New Topic Discovery Element

| Updated on August 2, 2024

Threads is on its way to becoming more like Twitter or should I say X. The company is gradually adding more and more features like topical and trending engagement options.

On many occasions, Instagram and Threads chief stated that they don’t want to get into the real-time nature of microblogging sites like Twitter. According to him, Threads is all about the positive vibe in the app.

But now, Threads is rolling out a new Blue Label above posts that are related to a trending topic in the app. This will allow users to stay up to date with the current activities. By tapping on the blue label, users will be able to see the latest conversations about that particular topic.

Instagram New Topic Discovery

The above image is posted by Threads chief Adam Mosseri. By tapping on the linked topic, it will take you through a search listing for that term in the app. After that, there are three filter tabs for users to filter through the term. Tap on the “Recent” tab to check out the latest conversations about that particular topic.

This will be an easy way to add trends to the feed. With the “recent” filter available, users can tap into real-time conversations.

This new feature will be better than the current “Trending Now” section in the search. The current section often misses the major discussion points. They will continue to do the same for their Trending section as they don’t want to get into politics in the US.

However, the new topic discovery element will take the company towards real-time discussions. Inevitably, they will be leaning into politics. Whether it is now or two or three years later.
