Live Test of Threads Disappearing Posts

| Updated on August 29, 2024

After a brief test back in June, Threads has now launched a live test of disappearing posts with some selected users. The company is hoping that this will facilitate more engagement and interaction in challenging Twitter.

Threads Disappearing Posts

Alessandro Paluzzi shared this example above. Here you can see that Threads’ ephemeral posting option will delete your updates from the app after 24 hours. It will only work if activated. So, users who have access to this can now choose to activate the option when posting something on the platform. The option is located right in the post-creation tools.

TechCrunch has talked to Meta and confirmed that a small number of Threads users are now able to try out the option, with a view to providing more ways for users to feel restricted with what to post on the platform.

Because, everyone is afraid of their social posts getting linked back to them, on the web. This can lead to several problems.

We’ve often seen that celebrities are dragged to the table for their ill-informed, insensitive, or offensive posts. These posts often attract the attention of the media.

Due to this reason, social media platforms think that people are not posting as they used to. As we’ve mentioned multiple times, most of the engagement activity has switched to private messaging groups.

In the early days the head of Instagram and Threads, Adam Mosseri suggested that they may look to implement auto-archiving Threads posts. This would in turn reduce the pressure associated with this element. He believed that this might encourage users to share raw and authentic content on the platforms. They also considered the option to auto-delete the posts after a period of 30 or 90 days.

Disappearing posts are the same as they will take the burden away from users to post more freely on the platform.
