Snapchat has added new AR experiences to celebrate the 2024 Olympics on the platform. It includes new AR lenses, official highlights, filters, and more.
This time around, the company is making an extra effort to make this Olympics an enjoyable experience for the fans. They want to facilitate fan connection with the games. Ultimately, it would help the platform to drive more engagement during the Olympics.
A few AR lenses have been added to the platform. Some of them are created in partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Here is what Snapchat said about the same.
“A range of experiences, powered by Snap’s AR Camera Kit technology, are available through the official app of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as well as on Snapchat. Featuring Olympic data feeds, IOC archival imagery, and more, the IOC has launched a series of AR Lenses to serve fans at home and around the world to ensure everyone feels connected to the Games.”
Its partnership with IOC extends beyond just creating the AR lenses on the platform. The official Olympics app also links back to Snap’s AR experiences. This is a win for the Olympics given that 180 million people on Snapchat engage with sports content each month. This is a great way for the Olympics to connect with a lot younger audience.
Apart from this, the IOC also added some scannable AR elements within official posters and promos for the games.
The company also partnered with NBCUniversal to bring a suite of exciting AR experiences to immerse Gen Z fans in the US. This includes giving them personalized tune-in recommendations complete with real-time stats and introducing them to Team USA athletes and their Bitmojis.
They are also bringing AR vending machines to the platform with a partnership with Coca-Cola.
“Coca-Cola and Snapchat are also bringing attendees the world’s first AR vending machine. Found in the athletes’ village and Coca-Cola’s international Food Fest, the machine is powered by a custom Snapchat AR mirror and provides photo ops, games, and prizes, as well as Coca-Cola’s beloved refreshments.”
