Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip lineup dominates the flip phone market. However, it is a little more costly than your average mobile device.
In comes a new entrant in the foldable category, ZTE with its Nubia branding. Nubia is a subsidiary of ZTE which is behind some of the best gaming phones available.
They announced their first foldable device, Nubia Flip 5G, at Mobile World Congress 2024. Nubia wants to compete with Samsung and play at the price point.
The reported price of the new Nubia Flip 5G is $600, a very impressive pricing compared to other flip devices. But, the real question is, does it offer the value proposition at this price?
Nubia Flip 5G offers a big 6.9-inch FHD+ AMOLED foldable display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has a convenient circular outer AMOLED display when folded for quick access. Users can perform basic actions without unfolding the phone.
The device is going to be powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC with Adreno 644 GPU. It might not be the latest and greatest processor but this SoC will do that job and help maintain a cost-effective approach.
When it comes to memory, the phone is equipped with 6GB RAM and 128 GB UFS3.1 storage for smooth operation.
In the camera department, it features a 50MP sensor accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor for portrait mode. It also has a 16MP front camera for video calls and selfies.
Despite its design and price, the device does not compromise much. It supports 5G and dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC. The device comes with a 4310mAh battery and supports 33W fast charging.
The main attraction of the phone is the price point. The company has confirmed that the Nubia Flip 5G will be available in Africa, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia for the equivalent of USD 599.
However, it is not certain when this device will be launched in these regions.
