Microsoft is now testing an original notepad feature that employs artificial intelligence to produce text for users. Particularly for those with Copilot+ PCs, this feature is part of a Windows 11 update being made available to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels. Further upgrades to the Snipping Tool, which can automatically crop and resize screenshots based on users’ preferences. Along with this, the new AI-driven features for Paint, like a sticker generator, are introduced in this update.
As stated on the Windows Insider Blog, the new Write function in Notepad lets users “quickly draft text based on your prompt,” or “build upon existing content with AI-powered assistance.” Users can right-click at the target location in a document or select existing text they want to reference to add fresh text.
Choosing the Write option from the Copilot+ menu in Windows brings up a request for users to provide their commands. The AI-generated text will then be shown in the document, letting users opt to keep it, reject it if it falls below their expectations, or enhance the results by giving more prompts. Earlier this year, within the code of Windows 11 test builds, this capability was first discovered.
The Write feature complements two other AI-enhanced tools Microsoft has been experimenting with, Notepad. While the Rewrite tool, which started testing last November, can alter the tone of the text, shorten it, and rephrase sentences, the Summarize tool can produce a summary of the material within a document.
Along with the AI capabilities already under development in Microsoft Paint, Generative Fill, Generative Erase, and the Cocreator tool that produces pictures based on text prompts and reference sketches, a new Sticker generator has been added. A fresh button in the Copilot+ menu launches a prompt where consumers may specify the sticker they want to make. Then, paint will generate a limited choice of stickers derived from the provided description that may be copied to other programs or put on the canvas.
