Digital minimalists can raise a toast to the impending arrival of the Light Phone 3. Expectations can only be managed since, at this price segment, it may steal away someone’s peace. This phone promises to give a pared-down ‘smart’ phone experience focused on just the basics: calling, texting, listening to music, taking notes, hotspots, maps, and setting alarms.
Purely in terms of 2025, the Light Phone 3 is simple, with a tiny 3.92-inch monochrome OLED. Some deem this an actual downgrade from the prior e-ink screen. The specifications are not exactly fabulous, as hidden down there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4450 chip. The phone consists of 128 GB internal storage with 6 GB RAM and another 8 MP camera on the front side for video calls and selfies.
It has a rear camera with 50 MP which can take 12 MP JPEG and capture images with sprinkles at 4G. Said device provides great backward compatibility toward 4G/LTE, making it probably usable on almost any mobile network across the globe, and can therefore be validated as per the Light Phone official track.
To top this off, a capacitive touch button located on the upper bezel will unlock via fingerprint. The brightness settings for the display could be adjusted using a physical scroll wheel on the device. This button could also flick on the rear flashlight. Now we still hold hopes about the amount of battery power, as a lowly rating of 1,800mAh has been fitted onto it. Rapid charging is not mentioned in the official specifications, while it presumably charges via a USB-C port.
Just to keep you in the loop, it is running Android, albeit we are not sure which flavor. Also, it is anyone’s guess how often it is going to get updated; currently missing are any features for NFC payments. At 799 bucks, it is quite the expensive alternative for anything else in your pocket.
