An announcement from Lenovo describes a futuristic foldable laptop and a second, solar-powered laptop intended for prolonged battery life. Since these laptops are still in the conceptual realm, they are not for sale. Lenovo, being the world’s largest PC vendor, has always excitingly courted innovative concepts, some of which went on to be commercially viable.
It is great to see what this Chinese tech giant has been developing. As an example, Lenovo has previously showcased a rollable laptop concept featuring a screen that rolls up to extend the display size.
The new concepts were presented at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona. The Lenovo ThinkBook ‘flip’ concept integrates design features with a foldable screen that, opened out, creates a staggering 18 inches of display.
The screen can be folded in half sideways, rendering two separate displays, each from either side. Further simplistically, the entire assembly could be eased underweight, giving the whole laptop the feel of a tablet.
Foldable displays are increasingly being used in smartphones from the likes of Samsung and Honor, as well as the trifold smartphone by Huawei, but foldable screens on such a scale for laptops are still rare.
Before this concept could be manufactured, Lenovo would need to address a couple of challenges, with ensuring the durability of the display being one of them.
Another interesting device, the Lenovo Yoga Solar PC, named after its popular Yoga laptop series, has solar panels on the back that absorb light. While it can still be charged through the standard way, the solar panels are meant to be a supplement to the battery when it’s running low, especially when charging might not be an option.
Lenovo states that these panels can extract energy from the ambient light–allowing for an extra hour of usage after a solid 8-hour workday.
