iOS to Get a Visual Design for MacOS to Follow

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, iOS 18 will likely include some design changes and may feature new UI elements as well. But a MacOS revamp might be a year or two away for now.

In his newsletter, Mark Gurman said that Apple is working to update the design on the iOS and may ship later this year. There were also rumors that iOS 18 may feature some design elements from visionOS. While Mark agrees that iOS could take some inspiration from visionOS, a total overhaul that mirrors visionOS is not on the cards.

Gurman says “The company is indeed working to update the design of iOS as early as this year, but I don’t believe it will be a total overhaul that mirrors visionOS”.

Since the launch of visionOS, many people wondered whether Apple will update the design of its other OS to match the aesthetics of visionOS. Just like the 3D buttons and glassy background textures. However, this does not hold as the visionOS design revolves around the passthrough mode. Being able to see the world around you through an app or window is not a concept that applies to iOS.

It has been a while since we’ve seen a major change in iOS design. So, a visual refresh was on the cards for a while and this report does make sense.

The new version of iOS is also going to have significant AI-powered features as Apple continues to work on AI.

Mark says that Apple sees this version of iOS as ambitious and compelling with new designs and features. We can expect the new iOS to be launched at the annual WWDC conference in June. However, it will be in the beta state and may launch in September or October.
