The discussions around the age limits for social media access have been hot. Amid this, Instagram is trying to calm the audience about harmful exposure in its app. The company is doing that by introducing new restrictions for all teen users.
These new restrictions will give more protection to the younger user base.
Under the new teen protection initiative, Instagram will now categorize all users to a more advanced protection mode, which will limit who can contact them, what they see, and how much they are spending in the app.
Here is what Instagram said about it.
“We know parents want to feel confident that their teens can use social media to connect with their friends and explore their interests, without having to worry about unsafe or inappropriate experiences. We understand parents’ concerns, and that’s why we’re reimagining our apps for teens with new Teen Accounts. This new experience is designed to better support parents, and give them peace of mind that their teens are safe with the right protections in place.”
There will be six new restriction modes for the teen accounts. These restrictions include private accounts, messaging restrictions, sensitive content restrictions, limited interactions, time limit reminders, and sleep mode enabled.
Instagram will also allow teen users access to a new feature that lets them select the topics that they want to see more of in the Explore and recommendation section. It will help them show more content focused on what they want to see.
It would benefit the teens a lot as they would only see what they want to see.
