Now, Instagram is adding a small feature to the broadcast channels. Broadcast channels will now support replies as well. So, now they think that broadcast channels shouldn’t just be for broadcasting anymore.

This example was posted by Allie Mason on Threads. You can see from it that some creators can now enable the replies in their broadcast channels. This essentially means that subscribers of the channels will now be able to add replies and engage in the channel.
However, there is a caveat. The replies by the users are not visible within the main channel feed.
So, it looks like the main broadcast channel will remain just like it was before. It will be a singular stream of updates from the channel admins. Ultimately, providing them with another means for promotion and keeping their fans up to date with their content.
According to Instagram’s CEO, most of the interactions are now happening within private feeds such as broadcast channels. So, it makes sense for the platform to provide said feature.
The new feature is according to the data they are seeing from the backend. However, the replies in the broadcast channels will only be visible once you tap on the specific message from the updates.
So no, it won’t be like a group chat. It will be like a discussion space for fans based on separate messages. All-in-all, the main channel will remain broadcast-focused.
It may look like a bit of jargon for most of us, but actually, this is a nice update. It is the logical update to a new format they’ve introduced in all their apps.
This new update will provide them with another opportunity to engage with the fans about specific updates and elements on the platform.
