Today, Instagram announced that users can add multiple audio tracks to their Reels. This will allow the users to add variable soundtrack elements in a single clip.
In the example above, you can see that users can now add up to 20 tracks in a single Reel. You can either have overlapping or merge into each other to fit the different phases of the clip.
CapCut, the video editor from TikTok can also do that but it is not really designed for the same type of multi-track mixing as Instagram.
This new feature will enable the users to add their variants to the videos. This will also help them when their Reel needs to change focus for an abrupt scene change and music change scenario. Users could crossover tracks and be a DJ. All in all, they will be able to achieve a lot more with Audio now than before.
Because there are many ways this can be utilized, it all depends on the imagination of the user. This nifty feature will inspire new types of audio trends in the Reels space.
The most interesting part is that users will be able to use the same audio tracks for their own clips.
It is a great addition to the Instagram editor and an original concept. Because it feels like Instagram has been taking all its inspiration from TikTok in recent years.
TikTok is the most successful short video app on the planet and taking inspiration from it is not a bad idea. However, it is good for Instagram to come up with some original ideas rather than just copying the competition to make their product.
