Instagram Adds New In-Stream Safety Alerts to Secure Instagram

| Updated on March 1, 2024

Instagram says that they are committed to fostering a safe environment for users on the platform. In the bid to create a safer environment, Instagram is adding some new safety measures to protect users.

Instagram released this information through a blog. The first feature is the alerting of potential impersonations and scams. Now, when an account that Instagram’s system detects could be impersonating a business or individual, or involved in some shady shit, tries to follow you or DM you, a new pop-up alert will be displayed to convey the same information to the user.

Here is how.

Alerting of potential impersonation & scams

You can check the image above and see the different warnings you will see to avoid potential scammers. This is a welcome feature on the platform as many shady individuals exploit those with little knowledge of these types of scams.

Apart from this, Instagram is also strengthening your security settings to ensure that your account is secure. There is a new security checkup feature to review how you can secure your account.

They are also adding new alerts when users get tagged or mentioned by accounts they don’t follow on the platform. These alerts will prompt people to review or update their safety and privacy settings to ensure that they understand what those tags mean.

This will ensure that there is no misuse of tags and the user is aware of the interaction. These little updates will make the platform a lot better than what it used to be.
