ChatGPT Meltdown: It Started Sending Alarming Messages to Users

| Updated on February 27, 2024
ChatGPT has started sending alarming messages to users

ChatGPT AI system started speaking nonsense, talking Spanish without prompting, and other garbage.

It appears that the ChatGPT AI system has broken for a few hours and started behaving erratically. The chatbot started giving answers to queries that were not even prompted. Sometimes it answered with long and nonsensical messages and even suggested that it was in the room with them.

There is no clarity on what happened with the chatbot, but the creators stated that they are aware of the problem and monitoring the situation.

According to an X post by architect Sean McGuire, the chatbot advised him at one point to ensure that “sesquipedalian safes are cross-keyed and the consul’s cry from the crow’s nest is met by beatine and wary hares a twist and at winch in the willow.”

A user on Reddit shared that asking simple questions like ‘What is a computer?’ starts generating paragraphs upon paragraphs of nonsense.

Some users speculated that the system appeared to be losing a grip on the languages that it speaks. Some found that it appeared to be mixing Spanish words with English using Latin and more. Or It is seemingly making up words that appear as if they were from another language.

The chatbot was doing this briefly with many users. However, one Redditor pointed out that ChatGPT 3.5, the free one, was not affected by this. So, in all possibilities, the bug may have only affected the paid subscribers.

So, ChatGPT suffered from a bug or something that made it erratic in its behavior.
