OpenAI is now testing a new feature that gives ChatGPT the ability to store information from user’s previous chats. This information includes their voice, tone, and personal preferences. In short, ChatGPT will now get a memory to create a more intensely customized experience for users.
This means ChatGPT will now remember things about you and your past conversations and will include everything you’ve talked about. This new development will make the chatbot more personal and less like you’re starting from scratch each time.
OpenAI shared this information through a blog post. If you’ve asked ChatGPT to remember to do something or pick up the details from previous chats, it will oblige. The feature will get better over time as it learns from what you want to use it for. For example, if you prefer taking notes in a certain style, just ask ChatGPT to remember it. After that, it will show the note in that style.
According to the blog post, the users are in control, they can turn it on or off at any time. While this feature is turned off, you won’t be able to create or use memories.
If you want ChatGPT to forget something, just ask. Or you can go to settings and delete all or specific memories as well.
In case you want to create a chat without memories, there is also an option for that. Users can create temporary chats for conversations without memory. These temporary chats won’t appear in history and they won’t use these for training their AI models.
OpenAI said that this feature will be available for some free and paid users this week before a wider rollout.
