Apple Says Rice is not the solution if iPhone gets wet

Have you accidentally taken your iPhone for a swim? Happens to the best of us. So, the question arises, what to do next? Lucky for us, there is this household staple that people consistently suggest that putting the iPhone in uncooked rice will solve the problem.

Contrary to this popular staple on the internet, Apple advises against it explicitly. Apple advises people to not put their iPhones in a bag of uncooked rice.

Apple support documents explicitly state, “Don’t put your iPhone in a bag of rice. Doing so could allow small particles of rice to damage your iPhone.”

These documents are out to address what users need to do when they encounter such a scenario. They are not just there to address the myths on the internet.

Apple also advises against using an external heat source or compressed air to blow off the liquid. Also, don’t insert foreign objects like a cotton swab or a paper towel in the charging port.

As an alternative, Apple suggests that users need to tap their iPhones gently with their hands with the connected facing down to remove excess liquid. And then leave your iPhone in a dry area with some airflow to dry the liquid before charging.

If your device is still showing the wet phone alert, then you may need to keep your phone in the same area and wait. It could take up to 24 hours for the phone to really dry.

If your phone is still not responding, then maybe it’s time to seek professional help. Go to your nearest Apple-authorized service center and let the professionals handle the issue.
