Apple has been actively working toward an all-screen design for the iPhone, and it seems this aim may finally be realized in only a few years. In his newest Power Mark Gurman of Bloomberg stated that Apple intends to downsize the Dynamic Island on the next iPhone versions scheduled for release next year. After that, he looks forward to the release of a new iPhone design to mark its 20th anniversary.
Previously, Gurman has said that this 20th-anniversary iPhone will have curving glass edges, very thin bezels, and a true edge-to-edge display free of cutouts. This would be the first iPhone to have a fully smooth, all-screen design. Under-screen Face ID technology will be included in the iPhone 18 Pro models coming out soon, according to Wayne Ma from The Information.
He stated that the devices would remove the pill-shaped cutout at the top of the screen, therefore causing us to doubt Gurman’s claim concerning the presence of a little Dynamic Island next year.
Still, the first all-screen iPhone with an under-screen front camera and under-screen Face ID is expected to be released in 2027. The move toward an all-screen design has been a slow process. Apple changed from Touch ID and huge bezels to Face ID and a notch with the introduction of the iPhone X in 2017. Then, the company switched from the notch to the Dynamic Island with the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022.
