Apple Assembles ‘Answers’ Team to Develop In-House ChatGPT Rival

Apple’s Answers Team

Apple is generally acknowledged to be behind in the artificial intelligence field. Companies like Google, on the other hand, have fully embraced artificial intelligence search tools; Apple Answers has been sluggish to create its AI-driven solutions upon which Apple Intelligence is built. Mark Gurman’s most recent Power On Newsletter suggests that this could soon change.

Apple has allegedly been quietly putting together AKI, or “Answers, Knowledge, and Information.” Robby Walker, a senior director at Apple who reports to Apple’s senior vice president of Machine Learning and AI, John Giannandrea, heads this team. Following a redesign brought on by Siri feature delays, Robby shifted to the AKI team.

Gurman said the team’s goal is rather clear, which is to produce ‘a new ChatGPT-like search experience.’ Although the project is still in its early stages, Apple Answers has already started advertising for engineering vacancies. Gurman points out. Specifics are still scarce. Rather than just pointing consumers toward search results, the team is creating the previously noted system to scan them and deliver solutions.

According to Gurman, Apple’s ‘answer engine’ should have the ability to scan the internet for information and answer questions almost like ChatGPT. Additionally underway are standalone application designs as well as supporting backend infrastructure to handle the whole operation. Emphasizing the need for knowledge in search algorithms and engine development, one of the job postings implies Apple may also be exploring search engine technology.

Apple Intelligence might use some enhancements, as is generally known. Apple’s AI-driven tools have been poorly received; despite Cupertino’s investigation of methods to more actively include artificial intelligence into its operating systems, it has not been especially pleased with the outcomes seen up to now.

Last week OpenAI announced SearchGPT, an AI-powered search engine and today Apple entered the race to create a powerful search engine. With a predicted launch in spring 2026, the artificial intelligence upgrade for Siri is still under development; therefore, AKI’s efforts will likely be incorporated into Siri and other Apple products if they can keep to the timetable.
