    7 Foolproof Tactics for Becoming a Better Student

    Posted on December 4, 2020 | By Alan Cider

    Academic success is not about talent; it is much more about persistence and discipline. No one is born a great student, but everyone can become one with some effort. College life requires finding a balance between studies and other aspects of life. But it is perfectly possible to get better at being a student – you just need to implement some efficient tactics into your life.

    If you want to be more efficient and get better grades, these tips will help you out.

    1. Find Internal Motivation

    Motivation is a key factor in being successful in academics. You need to know why you are doing it and what your goals are. Think about the benefits of getting a college degree and all the doors it can open before you. Write down the goals you want to achieve each year, semester, and during the whole college experience. Some might even visualize it as a table or list to get a constant reminder for this is for.

    2. Ask for Help

    One of the main mistakes many students make is that they decide to deal with college completely on their own. Of course, it is possible, but it isn’t necessary. Asking for help is fine and can give you valuable information, insight, or feedback. Several sources can help you with your studies, such as a college counselor, your professor, or tutor. Ask an essay writing service for professional assistance with assignments. Or you could also ask your classmates for help or students from other courses. If they are also not able to help you you can join buyessayclub to get perfect wriiten essays for your assignment topics.

    3. Get Organized

    Another crucial part of the college experience is learning time management. Effective time management is associated with higher grades and a better mental state among students. And it will come in handy in life for sure. How to do it? There are several tips:

    • Create a calendar with all the deadlines and due dates;
    • Set reminders for writing an essay. For example, a week before the essay deadline, so you can start working on it on time;
    • Create to-do lists for each day. They help to be more effective and know what to do next;
    • Prioritize everything and always start with the hardest and the most urgent task.
    • Have a set study routine, like a designated workspace with all supplies.

    It is also great to work in a time when your brain is the most effective. Some prefer to do the most work in the morning, others in the evening – create a routine according to your needs.

    4. Stay Healthy

    This advice never gets old, no matter if some think that it is not cool. There is a direct impact of physical and mental state on academic performance. It would be best if you had a good sleep every night, about 7-8 hours. Do not pull all-nighters unless it is indispensable because sleep deprivation is harmful to your brain.

    Eat balanced food instead of highly-processed or sugary. Stay away from fast food as much as possible. You can also cook at home, which is also budget-friendly. Proper nutrition also influences your cognitive function and, as a result, success in college.

    The third aspect of a healthy lifestyle is regular exercise. It will help to keep your body and mind in shape.

    5. Avoid Burnout

    All the mentioned above should keep you from academic burnout. How to not get physically and emotionally exhausted? Well, you need some rest. Do something you enjoy, not only on the weekends. Go for a walk, watch a movie, meet with friends, etc. Also, use different stress relief techniques, like meditation or breathing exercises if you feel overwhelmed.

    And remember that it is ok not to be perfect and make mistakes sometimes.

    6. Use Technology for Studies

    There are many apps and software solutions that can help you learn, take notes, and keep everything in place. They can also help to do written assignments faster and, in general, be more organized. Here are some good examples:

    • Grammarly is a free tool that helps to check and proofread writing. It is much faster to eliminate any errors than do it manually;
    • Quizlet is an app that helps to create study flashcards. It is a perfect option to revise terms and important facts any time, for example, when you are waiting in line or commuting;
    • SoundNote and AudioNote are two apps that help record a lecture and take notes simultaneously. They also have great search features so you can find any part of the recording instantly;
    • Google Drive keeps all the documents in one place. And it is easy to access them from any device as long as you have an internet connection. You can have all the study materials neatly organized.

    7. Revise Regularly

    It is much more efficient to study in short but intense periods than to spend 11 hours on a book. Study for 45-60 minutes and take a 15-minute break; it will help to recharge and rest. Also, revise the study materials regularly. For example, read and answer the questions to the lecture or subject several times a week. It will be easier to remember if you first try to retrieve an answer from your memory before looking it up in a book.

    Summary

    To be a better student, one needs to establish an effective routine and find a perfect balance. It is about staying healthy and focused on what is important. You also need to prioritize the tasks and manage time correctly. Use technology to help you on this journey, and do not forget to rest and enjoy a good time with friends.
