  • Unable to charge AirPods.
  • One AirPod is louder than the other.
  • Dropping the AirPod on the floor or water accidentally.

  • Having trouble using the AirPods with non-iOS or Android devices.

Phew! So these were some problems that the AirPods users have to face from time to time. Even though Apple has worked hard on resolving these issues on the second and third generations of the AirPods, the users can still face any of them. Now let’s see why the issue of “One AirPod is louder than the other” happens.

Why is One AirPod Louder Than the Other?

Imagine having a good time listening to your favorite music on your AirPods comfortably, but the sound frequency doesn’t quite feel right. One AirPod’s sound is louder than the other, making you wonder if your AirPods are not connecting or there’s some trouble with your AirPods. Not likely. Let us explain why. It is hard to determine if one AirPod is louder than the other due to a software or hardware issue. However, here are some reasons why the issue probably might be happening:

  • Imbalanced Audio Signal: There is a possibility that you have not set the audio signal correctly in the settings of your connected device which is causing the issue of one AirPod being louder than the other.
  • A Connectivity Glitch: If your AirPods are not connected in the right manner, then that can be the reason for the issue.
  • A Damaged AirPod: The possibility for such an error is high if your AirPod is damaged. As the AirPod which is damaged isn’t functioning properly, the working one’s sound can be heard louder.
  • Junk Accumulated in the AirPod: If an excessive amount of debris has been getting accumulated in your AirPods, then this can be one of the reasons why your one AirPod is louder than the other.

At this point, we can’t be sure why exactly one AirPod sounds louder than the other. It can be because of a software or hardware problem. More importantly, your earwax could get into your AirPod, potentially causing damage. Below, we are going to explain how to get your AirPods issue repaired if they’re malfunctioning.

How to Fix “One AirPod is Louder Than the Other” Issue?

There are some troubleshooting methods that you should try to fix —  why is one AirPod louder than the other. You can try the solutions mentioned below one by one using easy steps until the balance returns to your AirPods.

Clean AirPods or the Charging Case

This is one of the most basic methods that should be used generally and not just as a troubleshooting solution.

  • Get a soft and lint-free cloth for cleaning the surface.
  • With the help of the cloth, gently wipe the AirPods and their charging case.
  • To clean more compact particles, you can also use a fresh toothbrush.

Note: Don’t use tissue or cloth that will break up inside your device.

Clear Out the Earwax

It is only natural that earwax is present in our ears, and it can also get inside the gadgets that we wear on our ears like earphones or AirPods. And so, there is a high chance for the AirPod to get slower due to its excessive accumulation. Therefore, we have got you some easy ways to get rid of the unwanted earwax from your AirPods. The AirPods volume can be adjusted by holding the AirPod and placing a thin towel over the mesh, then sucking it to get the dirt out. After that, continue to suck on it, and then check your quieter-sounding AirPod to see if there’s a noticeable change in the quality of its sound.

As the AirPods or any other earphones build ear wax, any arriving sound is muffled, making the method effective.

Note: Just be careful to suck on it using a tiny towel in between your teeth. Simply wipe clean with the towel every time you blow into the AirPod.

Check your Audio Balance in the Connected Device

Audio balance refers to the volume of sound that comes out from the left side and right side of your AirPods when you’re listening to music or watching your favorite television show. As the balance is adjusted in the bar, your AirPods will sound louder on that particular side of the AirPods.

To make sure that you are listening to the best quality audio on your AirPods, you should check if the balance is adjusted in the middle to keep the audio levels in check and balance on both AirPods. Here’s how you can check the audio balance of your AirPods.

  • Go to the Settings of your device.
  • Then tap on Accessibility and select Audio/Visual.
  • Now, to restore the balance, slide the bar to the middle (0.00).

Restart your Device

It is possible that the AirPods you are blaming for being louder on one side is actually the device’s fault that they are connected with. For that, you can follow the most basic common methods i.e., restarting your device. The steps for it are as follows:

  • Press and hold the power button and swipe the power off slider.
  • Now, restart your iPhone after waiting 30 seconds by holding the power button until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
