How to Run an Environmentally Friendly Office?

Due to concerns around climate change, running a sustainable office has risen to the fore of many business owners’ minds. The tricky part for many people, whether they are an office manager or a CEO, is figuring out how to do this in a way that is good for the environment, in line with government regulations, and doesn’t affect their bottom line too much. Thankfully for you, this guide has been created to recommend five ways to keep your office clean and to increase your efficiency.

Go Paperless

Paper can be one of the most wasteful elements in an office. Nonetheless, unless a particular client requires paper or you work in an industry where it is more helpful to use printouts, there’s no reason why your office cannot move towards a paperless model. With the rise of smartphones and tablets, information can be easily shared and portable without the need to use a printer. Make sure that you allow all of your employees to understand the switch in advance, then work slowly towards that crucial transition date.

Reduce Water Waste

Water waste is something that must be avoided when running a business. Thankfully, there are a lot of ways that you can reduce water waste. It’s worth having a clear understanding of the amount of water that has been contaminated by human use and find ways to reduce it. There are a whole host of companies around that can help you with this issue and make your business more environmentally friendly.

Use Renewable Energy

Because fossil fuels can emit dangerous toxins into the atmosphere and contribute to the effects of climate change, it is a much better option to make sure that your energy is coming from renewable energy sources. In fact, with some smart thinking, you can even generate your own electricity renewably. For example, if you have a roof, there is no reason why you can’t install some solar panels on the top to generate your own power!

Run a Four-Day Week

One of the simplest ways to make sure that your office is emitting less energy is by working less. Many businesses now are experimenting with four-day weeks, finding out that the same level of productivity can actually be achieved in four days than what was originally achieved in five. You can also experiment with having days where everyone works from home, saving energy costs by not commuting.

Use Smart Meters

To have an idea of the amount of energy you are using and have ways to bring that energy use down, it is a very clever idea to use smart meters. They can monitor your usage for you and help to bring down the amount of energy being used when there is nobody in the office. You can also manage this remotely, meaning you’ll be able to cut energy usage without having to physically be there.
