The Most Followed NFL Teams on Twitter

| Updated on March 27, 2024

The NFL (National Football League) is one of the biggest sports in America and is consistently amongst the biggest sporting events happening every weekend. According to the league, this past season saw 185 million viewers tune in throughout the year.

It is not only a great social event but also brings forth plenty of popular activities, none more so than fantasy football. With over 30 million players in the USA and Canada according to the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association, it is one of the most popular hobbies for sports fans in North America.

NFL dominates the list of most valuable teams all around the world. You may verify Forbes’ list of most valuable sports teams from Wikipedia. The list clearly shows the value and the sport of the team. The list is filled with the American flag as mostly each rank involves an American team from any league (mostly NFL).

With a sport of such popularity, it is no surprise that this expands over to the players’ and teams’ social media presence. Twitter is of course one of the biggest social media platforms in the world and as such, teams are sure to conjure a strong presence there.

The graph above shows the number of Twitter followers of each team from the NFL League (The data shown in the graph is recorded from 2022). With 32 teams across the league, let’s take a look at Twitter’s most followed NFL teams.

Denver Broncos – 2.7 million

Starting our list from none other than Denver Broncos. This team is ranked 6th on the list of most followed NFL teams. This Colorado-based team enjoys a huge fan base all over the USA.

Despite never winning a Super Bowl, the Carolina Panthers are the fifth most popular and fifth most followed NFL team on Twitter. They do however have the luxury of being based in one of the most populous states in the US.

The Panthers have consistently made the most of video content on their Twitter account, especially through former QB Cam Newton’s charismatic antics on and off the field.

A cute black panther name Sir Purr is the official mascot of the team. Sir Purr can be seen in 00 numbered jersey. Team Calorina Panthers is recently bought by David Tepper. Mr. Tepper closed the deal with an amount of $2.3 billion.

The team has won 1 Super Bowl league championship title in 2018. Against all odds, they brought the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Philly with one of the most famous plays in Super Bowl history. They made it all the way to the big one once again this past season, though would come up short to the Kansas City Chiefs. They currently boast some of the best players in the league such as Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown along with cult hero Jason Kelce. A bald eagle with a team jersey is the official mascot is also called Swoop.

They have consistently talked the talk through their Twitter especially throughout their historic rivalries with the Ravens, Bengals, and Dallas Cowboys. Speaking of…

Dallas Cowboys – 4.3 million

Everybody knows why they are called “America’s Team”. Whilst they just miss out on the top spot for social media, the Dallas Cowboys are runaway winners of the most well-supported team in the nation with 8.5 million fans.

Players like Larry Allen, Darren Woodson, and Zack Martin have helped to solidify fan loyalty over the years and their five championships did a lot of helping too. It is no surprise that they are so well supported when you remember that they are the oldest team in the second most populous state in the country.

Whilst they have gone without a Super Bowl appearance in over 25 years, they have enough in their history to remain arguably the biggest team in the league. The team has a cute mascot named Rowdy.

Rowdy can be seen prior to the match in the team’s 00 jerseys. The team has won multiple Super Bowl trophies, 5 trophies to be precise. This brilliant team won its trophies in Super Bowl VI, XI, XXVII, XXVIII, and XXX.

New England Patriots – 4.7 million

It is unlikely to be a surprise that the team who put together maybe the greatest dynasty in the history of the sports tops this list. Under the Greatest Of All Time, the man with more Super Bowl rings than any other player before him Tom Brady, their six World Championships between 2001 and 2018 made them the great white shark of the league.

Their three wins between 2014 and 2018 came during a time when social media had announced itself as a cultural phenomenon and aided their growth incredibly. Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, and head coach Bill Belichick are not just icons of the Patriots but of the sport as a whole.

They boast fans in a multitude of states owing to the fact they fly the flag for all six New England states and the impact of the incredible teams they have put together over the last 20+ years is felt in their social media presence. The official mascot of the team is Pat Patriot, an American Revolution soldier with the number 1 on their Jersey. New England is another team to compete with the Pittsburgh Steelers when it comes to a number of Super Bowl trophies.
