How VDI Supports Additional Workers During Surges and Emergencies?

The recent pandemic has made it necessary for companies to cope with the increase in workload and employees working from home. As many agencies had turned to extra emergency workers to cope with the world load during the emergency, VDIs proved to be very helpful.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, their efficiency proved to stand unique and made a lot of difference and ensured the exact responses and solutions were provided as expected. A VDI service provider can increase the telework activity and surge the desktops, which are two factors that contributed to the success to curb emergencies.

A hypervisor segment is served into the virtual machine of VDI to host the virtual desktops. In this process, the user could connect to the desktop instances using a connection broker. The connection broker is an intermediary that is software-based and is used to create a connection between the user and the server.

The VDI service providers control the machines from one exclusive location and this helps avoid the access limits problems and slowdowns that can occur due to VPN connections. Experts have pointed out that the government can approve this approach due to several reasons.

VDI offers an easy scope for onboarding and offboarding, as temporary workers wouldn’t have the time or money, or access to own a laptop. Therefore, VDI makes it possible to execute the job more safely and quickly.

Their scope is infinite as it even extends to the federal and intelligence agencies where the focus speed and secure methods to ramp up any crisis.

VDI and Airforce

The AFRC supports about 65,000 reservists, and they provide timely help to relieve those on active duty. Due to their circumstances, these men never had access to the monitors at their headquarters. Therefore, they would need a reliable method to help all of them to be connected.

VDI provides the extra benefit of being cost-effective and authentic. It even proved to be the best and reliable method to use even before the arrival of COVID. Each reservist in the workforce would have a standard access card, also known as CAC.

It is an official card to identify the person and their rank in the force. This card has an extra benefit also. Once it is validated, the reservist can use it to connect to the virtual infrastructure. Using the virtual desktop, the commanders can have access to increasing the requirements without having to access governmental laptops.

VDI and Remote Workforce

The emergence of the COVID pandemic has contributed to the sudden development of VDI, which was earlier in its development phase before. It has even become the best alternative that supports working from remote places.

With the help of VDI, BYOD methodology could be supported, which made it possible for any user with a Windows 10 device to access the VDI solutions. The cloud-based infrastructure makes it possible for anyone to dial-up or down the usage according to the demand.

With the help of VDI, it was also possible for the VA to secure its users of temporary and emergencies. They can ensure that patches and policies are enforced simultaneously across its users of any bandwidth.

The traditional deployments of desktops only allow its users to manage the vulnerabilities to the endpoints of individuals. VDI, on the other hand, provides for patching the image in the cloud, and therefore, the operators only need to maintain the environment. The users who would come in will be on the most current desktop.

All these methods allow the agency to be more conscious of possible cyber threats. If there is any threat, they have the option to deploy it in the VDI environment, and the rest all taken care of.

There are even scopes to enhance the security of VDI, as there is an option to advance the authentication and end-to-end encryption. There is clear communication between the remote server and the device, which shows that VDIs can be encrypted, and two-factor authentication can also be enabled.

There’s also the scope to use a separate client application where a higher level authentication is asked. These prove that VDI is the best go-to model that can provide all the support that the temporary and the emerging workforce needs.

It can also expand and scale back as the conditions require its visible surge in the potential future. Some even say that VDI would evolve to set the standard to speak of how desktop as a service can be delivered.
