So, just like this, if you don’t know how YouTube and its views, tools, or algorithm works, and you’re an aspiring YouTuber, then we are here to spill it all for you. Without further ado, let’s dig right into it!

Can you See Who is Viewing your Content?

It is obvious that every YouTuber wants to know whether their audience is watching their content or not and if they are liking it. In order to have a better understanding of what a user or viewer likes specifically and what type of content should appear on their feed, YouTube collects data from its servers.

And not just that, YouTube Analytics, which is a built-in analytics tool by YouTube makes it easier for creators (like you, me, and many of us) to have essential insights into traffic sources and how many people are viewing their content.

It is a broad feature of YouTube, that tells you about how many viewers are viewing your content and also, where are they from, real-time views, demographics, and other statistics on YouTube with many more factors that we will discuss further in this article.

If you want to know how to find YouTube Analytics and understand who is watching your YouTube videos, then you are at the right place.

Some easy steps to reach the Audience tab are given below:

What Information can YouTubers Get about their Subscribers?

There is quite a lot of information that you can see as a YouTuber, and it can be more than you think. In this section, we are going to discuss what data of viewers is available for YouTubers to see.

Geographies/Location

YouTube Analytics doesn’t tell the exact location of a YouTuber’s subscribers, however, they can see the country that the subscribers are from.

For example, if you are a female who lives in the US, you will appear as ‘something’% of the users who are from the US.

Here are some easy steps on how you can go to the Top Geographies section:

  • As instructed in the previous steps, go to the Audience tab and tap on see more, under Top Geographies.
    click on see more
  • After that, click on the downward arrow on the right side, and you will be able to choose your desired date range.
    Select the desired date range
  • Press on the filter option given on the left side if you want to get specific details related to the data.
Click on filter to further sort the data
  • Then tap on the cross (X) icon when you have completed the checking of the report.

Age & Gender

Just like showing the top geographies, YouTube also shows the age groups and gender of the viewers, enabling YouTubers to get an idea of which gender or age group prefers to watch their videos more or less. To check the Age and Gender section, here are some easy steps that you can follow:

click on see more to get more info about age and gender
  • Then, click on the downward arrow on the right side, and you will be able to choose your desired date range.
  • Press on the filter option given on the left side if you want to filter the data.
  • Then tap on the cross (X) icon when you have completed the checking of the report.

Who Subscribed to the Channel

It is no surprise that to get an idea of their growth, YouTubers need to know the statistics for how many people have subscribed to their channel. And so, YouTube also provides new subscribers’ details and their total number, as shown below. If you want to know who subscribed to your channel, then follow the given steps to find out:

  • Go to the Audience tab, and tap on the Subscribers section on the right side of the tab.
click on subscribers to get more details
  • Then, click on the downward arrow on the right side, and you will be able to choose your desired date range.
  • Tap on the see more option given on the left side if you want to view the data in detail.
  • Then tap on the cross (X) icon on the top right of the page when you have completed the checking of the report.

From Where you are Getting Traffic

As shown in the picture below, there is proper data provided by YouTube, for the creators to see how many views they got. And not only that, but it also shows the different sources from where the creator is able to drive traffic for his channel.

  • Go to the Reach tab and there you will be able to see impressions, views and unique viewers of your YouTube channel.
    click on the reach tab
  • There you will be able to see traffic source types i.e. from which sources your YouTube channel is able to gain viewers and views.

Fascinating YouTube Facts

  • YouTube was created to be a dating website: Not many know this, but YouTube was originally created with the purpose of being a dating platform. Sounds crazy right? Because when we hear YouTube, even the thought of it being a dating platform never crosses our minds. But, it is a fact and a legit truth that we need to accept, even if we don’t agree with it. Well, all that is history, and today we know YouTube as a go-to for a tutorial, a review, or simply just for entertainment.
  • YouTube was bought by Google: Just a year and a half after its launch, YouTube was purchased by Google for a whopping amount of $1.65 billion back in 2006. Here, the “not many know” part is that YouTube is not a company that runs independently. Rather, there is a conglomerate with Alphabet, which includes Google and many other smaller companies. Undoubtedly, Alphabet is a powerful company having companies like Google and YouTube as its part.
  • People are choosing YouTube over cable: Compared to cable, YouTube definitely has a higher reach and since not many can afford cable, people have started a movement that they refer to as “cord-cutting”. This means switching to online video-streaming instead of depending on the cable which can be considered modern, interesting right?
  • There are 82.2 years of content on YouTube: Another fascinating fact is that as of 2019, there are 82.2 years worth of content on YouTube and even as I write this article this very minute, there seems to be just adding more (years). What is mind-blowing is that by the time someone somehow manages to get immortal and finish watching the content, there would still be more and more left to be seen.
  • YouTube is used by 122+ million users on a daily basis. However, 20% of videos are switched off within 10 seconds in the video. There can be a lot of reasons for this, like clicking on the wrong video or simply being fed up with those ads!
