How Do I Make My Clothing Tags 2021?

Did you know that custom tags for clothing remain to be the ultimate branding in clothing and accessories? That’s right. They are the most multifaceted, professional, and cost-efficient way of showcasing your business, not to mention your best selling point.

Besides branding, certain tags instruct your customers on how to best care for the outfit. Without them, some people might run the risk of shrinking, ripping, or fading away from the cloth coloring, maybe by mistakenly putting the attire into the washer, yet that shouldn’t be the case.

So, if you’re planning to start a clothing line (or maybe you want to fantasize about your handmade craft), it’s essential to learn how to create clothing tags individually. Here is how.

Using Stamps to Make your Clothing Tags

Stamping is a pretty straightforward method as well as a good DIY fix. Unlike other DIY versions like screen-printed bits, you’ll only need fabric or ribbon and, of course, a stamp.

The process involves using a customized stamp to imprint your clothing tag onto the fabric or ribbon paper, then setting with iron and sewing in. Below are some of the things you need to kickstart the stamping process.

1. A Stamp-on Material

A flat and plain weave ribbon will work well. But for a nice and clean stamp, ensure the ribbon is as smooth as possible. Additionally, consider a tightly woven ribbon that is made from natural rubber.

Other options you might look into include a hem from a suitable light-hued fabric. This is especially when you’re in a rush or unable to get the right ribbon. On the other hand, you can use plain-woven fabric. Fabrics (like poplin and shirting) that are both light-colored and tightly woven are best.

Use pinking shears to trim the edges, then create a fringe by pulling away from a few threads. But before stamping, make sure to press the fabric into a nice and smooth form.

2. A Stamping Material

Stamping materials vary depending on a material’s properties, formability, and simulations. So before selecting a stamping material, always consider any factor that could make it unfit for a specific task. Here are some of the commonly used stamping materials in the market;

Texts Stamps

Kits or alphabet stamps that include letters are best, especially making clear and consistent texts on tags. Kits perform better since they incorporate multiple letters and symbols (upper and lower cases), which you can rearrange and stamp repeatedly.

Image Stamps and Decorative

Besides text stamps, you can get some nice and lovely stamps from your local crafts shop. But find the right proportion, tiny stamps, that fits well with the width of your ribbon. That way, you can readily add decorative parts to the text.

3. Ink Pads

Most ink pads cannot work on fabric, though certain varieties, like the Black Ink Pad, can print on almost every surface, from hues and fabrics to wood and paper. Additionally, particular ink(like large stamp pads) can endure heavy machine washing with minimal bleeding or fading.

You can test a stamped piece of fabric in the washer and note any likelihood of fading. Also, follow the instructions on heat setting accompanied by your particular ink- while a couple of fabric stamping inks may require an iron heat setting, others don’t.

4. Sew-In Clothing Size Tag

If you’re knitting or sewing your clothes, and are looking for a sew-in clothing tag, a size tag from your local stationery store can do. That should include a readymade sew-in label that conforms to international size standards and incorporates various background colors.

How to Sew the Clothing Tags?

You can sew in the size tag with a sewing machine or hand. The size tag can fit the clothing fabric on either one or both of its shorter sides, depending on whether or not you want a more freely hanging tag.

You can buy a couple of sew-in clothing tags, including baby size labels, children size labels, and adult-sized labels. In the US, newborns and toddler clothing sizes range from 0-3 to 18-24 months, and 3 to18 months. For children, the tag size ranges from 1T to 6T. And six to sixteen for adults.

Additionally, sew-in size tags come in different background colors and fonts. Some stores have up to seven background colors and a handful of fonts to choose from. Some typically used combinations include but are not limited to blue with white font, purple with white font, and pink with white font.
