Dressing for Golf – What to Wear?

Posted on March 27, 2021 | by GetAssist.net

Don’t dress like Billy Madison on your trip to the golf course. It’s a place where you pay tribute to the golfing gods by dressing up just a little bit. You don’t need to look like a professional golfer trying out strange patterns just to stand out, but you do need to put some effort into your golf outfit. We’ve got a few things that will help you know exactly what to wear for golf.

Collared Polo Shirt

The collared polo shirt is key when you’re thinking of how to dress for golf. If you don’t get anything else right, just throw on a collared polo shirt. It doesn’t matter if you go for long-sleeved or short-sleeved. There are also different fabric choices. Some people love the moisture-wicking polyester blend polo shirts. Others enjoy the cotton pique polo shirts. You don’t need to sport any certain brand. The only true rule here is to dress for the weather. Remember that 100 degrees don’t pair well with those thick polo shirts.

Slacks or Shorts

You won’t see many professional golfers wearing shorts, but sometimes it’s just too hot for slacks. Your shorts mustn’t have a drawstring. Shorts or slacks made of slick polyester fabric are usually the best to keep you fresh and dry on the course. Flat-front slacks are soft and comfortable in most weather conditions. Stick with neutral colors. You’ll see some of the confident golfers sporting wild designs or bright colors. Go for it, if you dare.

Shoes

There are a few different kinds of golf shoes. Steel spikes are used by professionals. These are an issue on many courses because most are reserved for soft spikes. Brush up on the rules before you put on your shoes. Soft spikes are made of rubber or plastic. They don’t tear up the greens. You can also go for spikeless golf shoes. They have rubber studs on the bottom. You get pressure without pain. Spike shoes are a little tough for many people when walking.

Accessories

A belt is your best friend in golf. Use the belt to boost your attire. Go for a little color. Match it with your shoes or shorts. Socks aren’t anything special. Make sure they’re comfortable. You may also want moisture-wicking comfort on your feet, so go with a nice brand that keeps your feet fresh.

Hats

The gracious little tip of the hat on the golf course is perfect. A hat also gives

you more protection from the sun. There are a few options when it comes to your hat choices:

  • Visors – A golf visor is a perfect etiquette, but you don’t get that great of coverage.
  • Baseball Caps – It’s the most commonly worn with a golf outfit. You can show off a certain brand, but don’t go for any offensive wording.
  • Cowboy Hat – Lots of coverage. They’ll know you’re serious.
  • Narrow Brim Hat – This hat provides a nice amount of sun protection and boosts your class.
  • Wide Brim Hat – You’ll have ample coverage from the sun, but you may look a little silly.

Never wear your hat backward or to the side. It’s also important to remember that you cannot wear your hat in the clubhouse.

Golf Gloves

You don’t have to wear golf gloves when you play. Sometimes golfers love a nice glove for the best grip. Right-handed players usually wear gloves on their left hand and vice versa. Golf gloves require each player to find their own perfect fit. A durable, nice glove will get you far in the game. You don’t need to spend a fortune on your glove.

Cold-Weather Gear

When you’re trying to figure out what to wear for golf, always think about the weather. If you’re headed out for a cold day, don’t forget your cold-weather gear. You should always pack a jacket, umbrella, and poncho if needed. Golfers are used to getting stuck in a quick, random rainstorm. Don’t get stuck in the middle of a cold rain without your gear. A windy, cold day means you can cover your nice polo with a nice jacket. Be prepared to look nice, but always put comfort in the weather at the top of your list.
Once you figure out how to dress for golf, you’re ready for the course. Don’t let your outfit scare you away from the perfect golf swing. The outfit is just a fun part of the game. Go with utmost comfort when choosing your nice golf attire. If you need more ideas, check out GolfClubsGuru.
