The SSC CGL is a highly competitive examination, and one needs to master the curriculum to score well. This article talks about how to prepare well for this exam and clear it. SSC CGL is one of the most sought after exams for those aspirants who wish to get recruited in the government organizations.

The SSC CGL Syllabus is vast so make sure that you go through all the topics thoroughly and practice them well. At the outset, the exam is divided into four subsections. Here are the preparation tips for each subsection that you should be aware of.

SSC CGL Preparation Tips for Tier 1

The aspirants would be judged on the following subjects in their tier-I SSC CGL examination.

General Intelligence & Reasoning

In this section, the candidate will have to answer questions on verbal as well as nonverbal reasoning. There will be more questions in the verbal section. The common topics that are usually asked in this section are number series, similarities, and differences, problem-solving, decision making, visual memory, statement conclusion, coding, and decoding, etc.

General Awareness

The questions that are asked in this examination are to test the candidate’s general awareness and about the environment. The usual topics that are covered in this section are the economic scene, culture, geography, history, scientific research, and general policy. The aspirants must have through general knowledge which can be achieved by reading magazines, papers, and blogs. They should also be well versed in current affairs.

Quantitative Aptitude

This section tests the candidates’ ability to work with numbers and calculations. The important sections that are covered are ratio and proportion, decimals and fractions, time and distance, percentages, averages, etc. Learn short cuts, work on the basics, and increase calculation speed as well as manage time.

English Comprehension

The English comprehension section tests the candidate on his basic writing and comprehension skills. The candidates should have good control over grammar and vocabulary and improve their language skills to fare well in this section. To improve their English skills, candidates must read editorials and magazines.

SSC CGL Preparation Tips for Tier –II

  • To fare well in the Paper-I (Quantitative Abilities) and the Paper-II (English Language and Comprehension) tier II exam, the candidate needs to follow the same preparation procedure as in the tier-I exam. However, the difficulty level will increase in the tier-II exam.
  • Paper-III is a statistics paper that will include various topics like measures of central tendency, skewness, and kurtosis, sampling theory, index number, and time series analysis.
  • The Paper-IV (General Studies – Finance & Accounts and Economics & Governance) is categorized into two.

Part-A (General Studies – Finance & Accounts), which is an 80 marks paper and assesses the students on the concepts of accounting and fundamental principles, the common questions asked are profit and loss, appropriating counts, the rectification of errors, trading depreciation account, and many more.

Part-B (General Studies – Economics & Governance) is a 120 marks exam on topics that cover Constitutional Provisions of Comptroller & Auditor General of India, Theory of Production and Cost, Role and Functions of Finance Commission, Money, and Banking, etc.

SSC CGL Preparation Tips for Tier-III

The SSC CGL Tier-III is a subjective examination that the candidate can attempt in English or Hindi language. The paper is designed to test the candidates’ ability to manage official communications. The candidate is given a topic, and they have to write an essay, a letter, or an application.

SSC CGL Preparation Tips for the Tier –IV

The SSC CGL Tier-IV exam tests the candidates’ knowledge of computers. The candidate will be given a Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) or a Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) that judges their knowledge on Spreadsheet and Generation of Slides and Word Processing
