If you run a quick audit, you will find several unnecessary programs installed on your laptop.

Do you even need them? If not, why are they installed?

There is no point in keeping the waste. There come instances when we come across software while browsing the web, we hit install and the program gets installed right away. We don’t even check back to see how it works.

Likewise, students install software from a CD that they might have borrowed from a friend. They want to make sure everything on the CD is installed before they return it to their buddy. That’s who programs keep invading space on your PC and you don’t even realize what’s going on.

Most of the unwanted software programs bring malware and viruses, causing your computer to work slower. To avoid such consequences, you have to install only what you need. Don’t install an unwanted program even if you’ve plenty of space left on the hard disk.

Likewise, let the operating system of your computer be in perfect condition. Install all important updates to make things work efficiently. Make sure your computer is well-connected to the internet and have a good power backup when you start installing updates.

3. Avoid Overcharging

Laptops come with batteries to help you run tasks using backup even when the power is not directly available. You don’t have to keep the power cable or charger connected all the time. Laptop batteries are likely to provide hours of continuous backup depending upon the condition and model.

However, you have to stop overcharging if you wish to keep your PC batteries in perfect working condition. One of the biggest mistakes that we make is to leave our laptops connected to a charger even when the battery is full. This is damaging to battery health. You shouldn’t keep the charger connected when the battery is at 100%.

Unplug the charger and try using the backup so that the battery can also be used. If you don’t use backup, the battery condition will get worse over time.

Don’t let the battery go under 20%. Try plugging in the charger again once half of the back is consumed. You can set a low battery warning on a specific percentage. For instance, seeing a notification at 30% and plugging in the charger right away is a good practice to keep the laptop battery in great condition.

Information saved on a hard drive is likely to be scattered. As a result, you get slow performance while accessing data. Disk defragmentation helps you organize stuff on a hard disk.  If you defrag your disk regularly, you won’t have to face lag issues.

Using disk defragmentation once a month should be enough for a regular user. However, you can run it twice a month if you are a power user. Not sure where to find this option? Type Defragmentation in the search bar and it should be in front of your eyes.
