Who is Dan Mintz?

Posted on October 14, 2020 | by Shinely Ainsworth

Dan Mintz, DMG, Valiant. The name seems to be everywhere lately. But who is Dan Mintz, what is DMG, and why is everyone talking about Valiant?

Let’s start with the man behind the business. Dan Mintz of DMG is a big name right now in Hollywood. He’s an executive, a director, a producer, film editor, and cinematographer. Most importantly, he’s the founder and CEO of DMG Entertainment.

Mintz founded DMG Entertainment in 1993 with two Chinese partners. For years, he travelled between Beijing and New York City, working as a television commercial director and producer. DMG worked in commercials and marketing for years, also taking hold of the event and film industries.

As DMG grew, so did its worth. Dan Mintz led the company to its successful, globally significant scale. When the company went public, it was valued at 7 billion USD.

What Does DMG Entertainment Do

DMG started as a commercial production agency, but the company quickly grew to focus on more multimedia projects. DMG now also works in the VR and gaming industries. The company has opened a subsidiary in virtual reality development, called Arcturus. This specialized production team boasts professional veterans from companies like Pixar, Dreamworks, Google, and Youtube.

DMG also has its hands in the live entertainment honeypot. Innovative projects like Marvel Experience and Transformers Live have allowed DMG to work with some of the world’s top brands. Marvel Experience is a collaboration with Hero Ventures and Marvel Entertainment. The immersive experience takes place in a 360 degree Stereoscopic full-Dome projection theatre. Transformers Live is another unique experience, combining theatrical show, theme park attraction, and action-adventure spectacle into one.

Valiant Joins the Team

Now that we have a better understanding of DMG and Dan Mintz, we can understand why they wanted to acquire Valiant Comics. Valiant is one of the most prominent comic book producers in the world. Founded in the late 80s and mostly active during the 90s, the company has over 2000 characters in its arsenal.

DMG acquired Valiant in 2018 and immediately began planning the release of the first film to come from the Valiant world. Bloodshot (2020) was the first story from the Valiant universe to see the screen. Vin Diesel took on the titular role, with his performance being well-received by critics. The action was also praised, which is no surprise as Diesel has had more than enough experience throwing punches, and DMG backed such action flicks like Iron Man 3 and Kick-Ass.

The Future of Valiant and Dan Mintz

Dan Mintz has vast plans for Valiant and DMG. He has expressed his belief that Valiant Comics holds the potential for Marvel and DC levels of success. He believes it can do even better. DMG is free from the heavy controls of massive investors, and the characters in the Valiant comics are more relevant to our modern-day world. In part, because of the era, the comics were written in (the 90s) and in part because of the well-rounded characters.
We can expect to see Harbinger, Archer & Armstrong, and Faith movies to come next.
