5 Essentials You Need to Start a New Job

There’s so much to think about on your first day at work, from the clothes you wear to the things you’ll do. You are more likely to meet your new employer’s expectations if you prepare for your first day. Here are a few things you should bring to make a successful day one in your new job.

1) Decent Notepad and Pen

Bringing a diary and pen with you on your first day will help you make a real first impression. You’ll be showing your new boss and the rest of your team that you’re eager to get the ball rolling and start a new chapter in your working life!

Your company may provide you with a branded custom notepad soon, but you may need something to jot down your notes and set reminders before then. Of course, that depends on how organized you are!

2) Strong Painkillers

Your first day will be one to remember, but you’re almost guaranteed to finish with a headache from information overload! With so much to learn and process, strong painkillers are always good to bring with you to your new job.

No one will judge you if you take a couple of minutes to breathe. It can be daunting, but we’ve all been there before! And having painkillers at hand can help you avoid getting sent home on your first day if you’re feeling unwell.

3) Large Water Bottle

Whatever your job, staying hydrated is super important! When your body uses more energy, it uses more water which means you’ll have to replace it one way or another. Don’t forget to replenish your water intake now and then.

Ladies, your bodies need around 2.7 liters of water a day to function and to keep healthy. Gents, you need approximately 3.7 liters of water. So, either way, you’ll need a big water bottle! You can buy 2-liter bottles for a few dollars, then you can refill as often as you need.

4) Your Bank Card or Spare Dollars

You may be wondering why you’d need your bank card or a few dollars on your first day in your new job. But, it’ll save you any worry if your new colleagues invite you out to a diner on your dinner break. Having one of the two (or both) at hand means you can fuel your brain without remembering to ask for bank details later!

5) A Smile and A Positive Mind

Yes, it sounds cliché, but it’s god’s truth that keeping a positive mind helps you do more during the day. Have an ‘I can do this’ attitude and your new boss will love you from the get-go.

And it goes without saying, even if things get a little overwhelming, smiling is good for the heart and you’ll feel better in no time. So, try not to worry! Your first day should be exciting and you should burst with pride at the end of it, too.
