1. Incorrect Password

This could be one of the reasons for which you are facing login issues with AOL and aren’t able to access emails in Outlook.

2. No or Poor Internet

If you found AOL mail is not opening or is not responding at all, there are chances your device is not connected to the internet or it is facing speed issues.

3. Outage Issues

If the AOL server is down or the email service is facing outage issues, AOL may stop working with Outlook.

4. Incorrect Configurations

If you have not entered the correct AOL mail server settings i.e. IMAP, POP, or SMTP; AOL will stop working with Outlook. There are different steps to be taken to add AOL to Outlook depending on the versions you are using such as 2007, 2013, 2016, etc.

Solutions to Apply When AOL Mail Stops Working with Outlook

Here are some solutions that you can try if you are not receiving any emails on your AOL mail after configuring it to Outlook:

1. Check the Incoming Server Details

The first step you must take when the AOL mail is not working properly with Outlook is to check if you have entered the correct IMAP or POP settings. Normally, IMAP is considered effective to use for AOL on a third-party email client, so here are the settings you need to re-check:

Protocol Server Settings Port Settings
POP 3 Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.aol.com POP3-995-SSL
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.aol.com SMTP-465-SSL
IMAP Incoming mail server (IMAP): imap.aol.com IMAP-993-SSL
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.aol.com SMTP-465-SSL

2. Update the Password

If you have lately changed the password of your AOL mail account; you will have to change it on Outlook as well so that everything is synced. Not updating the password can make you encounter problems with AOL mail. To update the password in Outlook, go to the ‘Email Accounts’ or ‘Account Settings’, select your AOL account, and then update the password.

3. Update the Application

Using the older version of the email client can also put you in trouble. Generally, the outdated versions are not compatible with the latest security settings; so it would be better if you update the Outlook version and then check if you are receiving AOL mails or not. However, after updating the email client, you will be required to add AOL mail to Outlook again.

4. Additional Troubleshooting

If the above steps didn’t work, here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try:

  • Re-check that you have entered the correct credentials to access AOL emails
  • Your device must be connected to a working and stable internet
  • Make sure you have sufficient space in Microsoft Outlook before you start configuring your AOL account.
  • Clear the cache and cookies of your device and see if it helps.

Hopefully, all the above troubleshooting steps will fix the issues with AOL and make it work with Outlook again.
