What is an Infographic? A Beginner’s Guide

Posted on October 14, 2020 | by Shinely Ainsworth

a brief look at infographics

Did you know that out of the three primary methods of learning, over 65% of people are visual learners? Since the advent of social media, infographics have gained massive popularity as a way of sharing information effectively.

Would you like to learn more about infographics and how to use them to your advantage? Here is an introduction to infographics, how to make them, and other tips and tricks.

The Rise of the Infographic

An infographic is a presentation of facts, information, or data presented in a visually appealing way. Infographics have changed over hundreds of years, and they now represent one of the most common ways to depict data.

The first emergence of the infographic occurred in the eighteenth century, most commonly in the form of graphs and charts. Older infographics conveyed information like prices of goods and other facts that the average consumer might need to know.

Infographics are particularly suited for the digital age because of short attention spans and limited free time. Users can look at an infographic and absorb a large amount of information that they can easily remember.

How to Make an Infographic

If you want to begin making infographics for your business or personal use, you should start by researching what type you need. Many websites and programs exist that will help you create stunning visuals for your data.

Some aspects to consider when creating an infographic are a theme, color palette, size, and who the audience will be. Enter any hard data, like numbers or statistics, and play around with different types of charts and graphs to see which works best.

It’s up to you to choose how much control you have over your infographic, based on the type of data you want to show. With a quick search, you can get many infographic ideas for free.

Where to Share Your Infographic

Once you polish up your infographic, you will want to share it with the world. If you run a business, then you should consider posting it on your social media accounts, like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Infographics are wonderful for presentations as well, due to being easy to read. They can break up large amounts of text and still engage your viewers with the content that you present.

Infographics branded with your logo or signature can be a wonderful way to bring viewers back to your site or social media page as well. Please make sure they are easy to share and download.

Use Infographics for Any Purpose

Once you have figured out your preferred method or program, you can create infographics for any information that you want to convey visually.

If you want to bring your infographics to the next level, or you simply do not have time to make them, another option can be hiring a graphic designer. They are trained in producing quality content to attract your target market.

Making your own infographic does not have to be a difficult process. With infographics, you can take pride in what you present and bring a beautiful visual element to anything you do.
